Uttar Pradesh Sets Ambitious Goal to Triple Exports by 2030 Amid Global Opportunities

Turning Global Challenges into Opportunities

In a major economic push, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has set an ambitious target to triple its exports by 2030, leveraging the global trade shifts triggered by the ongoing US-China tariff war. An official statement released on Saturday highlighted how Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration is positioning UP to seize emerging opportunities amid global economic realignments.

While the standoff between the world’s two largest economies presents a broader chance for India, Uttar Pradesh is particularly well-placed with its improving law and order situation, world-class infrastructure, and an abundant skilled workforce to emerge as a preferred investment destination.

Rising Export Numbers with Strategic Schemes

Since the launch of the highly successful One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, Uttar Pradesh’s exports have surged from ₹88,967 crore to over ₹2 lakh crore, marking a strong trajectory of growth. The ODOP initiative, championed frequently by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has been a pivotal pillar in strengthening UP’s export basket.

Infrastructure: Backbone of the Export Dream

The state’s confidence stems from significant infrastructural developments, including:

  • An extensive network of expressways

  • Growth of domestic and international airports

  • Development of inter-state waterways

  • Availability of low-cost labor

  • A thriving Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector

These advancements are positioning Uttar Pradesh as a strong contender for businesses planning to relocate operations away from China, amidst the ongoing global trade tensions.

New Export Policy and Global Branding Initiatives

To further fuel this growth, the UP government is drafting a new export policy. A major highlight includes:

  • Strengthening the efficiency and transparency of ‘Invest UP’, the state's investment promotion agency.

  • Introducing an Export Promotion Fund to promote Brand UP globally.

Additionally, the government plans to boost UP's visibility by organizing the International Trade Show at the India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida, from September 25 to 27, 2025, with Vietnam as the partner country. The event is expected to attract lakhs of visitors from across India and 70 other countries, significantly bolstering UP’s global brand recognition.

Promotions for the Trade Show will run extensively across key markets, including:

  • Maharashtra

  • Southern Indian states

  • Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Indore

  • Major airports and railway stations

Special Focus on Leather and Footwear Exports

Uttar Pradesh is already the national leader in leather and footwear exports, contributing 46% to India’s total exports in this sector. To further consolidate this position:

  • A dedicated Leather and Footwear Policy is being drafted, making UP the second state after Tamil Nadu to have such a policy.

  • Major production hubs like Kanpur, Unnao, and Agra will benefit substantially from the new policy framework.

Empowering MSMEs: A Key Driver

Uttar Pradesh houses over 96 lakh MSME units, the highest in the country. With China exporting everyday goods worth USD 148 billion to the US and holding a 72% market share, while India’s share is a mere 2%, the potential for MSME growth is immense.

Recognizing this, the UP government regularly organizes training programs to improve product quality, competitiveness, and global readiness. These efforts have already started yielding results, especially under the ODOP initiative.

Conclusion

The Yogi Adityanath government's strategic planning, focus on infrastructure, MSME empowerment, and global branding are laying the foundation for Uttar Pradesh to become a major export hub not just within India, but on the global stage by 2030. With a clear roadmap and growing global interest, Brand UP is poised for a transformational journey.
