A special train was swiftly arranged to transport the stranded passengers of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express after it collided with a stationary goods train. The collision took place at Kavaraippettai Railway Station, near Chennai. The special train departed from Dr. MGR Chennai Central Railway Station early on Saturday at around 04:45 a.m., allowing passengers to continue their journey with minimal delay. Passengers were provided with food and water during their wait at the station, demonstrating the prompt response of railway officials.


Railways Set Up Help Desk for Passenger Support


In a quick move to assist the affected travelers, a help desk was established at Chennai Central Railway Station. This desk provided real-time support, addressing passenger concerns and helping them with travel queries and onward journey arrangements. This step ensured that all passengers received the assistance they needed in a timely and organized manner.


19 Injured in the Accident, No Fatalities


The collision between the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express (Train No. 12578) and a stationary goods train occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday night. The accident led to the derailment of 12 coaches of the passenger train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station, located near Chennai. Although 19 passengers sustained injuries, no fatalities were reported. Among the injured, four were reported to have more severe injuries, but all are in stable condition after being taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.


Train Services Canceled and Diversions Announced


As a result of the accident, the railways canceled two major train services. These included Train No. 12077 (Dr. MGR Chennai Central – Vijayawada Jan Shatabdi Express) and Train No. 12078 (Vijayawada – Dr. MGR Chennai Central Jan Shatabdi Express). Additionally, over half a dozen other trains were diverted to alternate routes to avoid the affected section. The railways also issued emergency helpline numbers to assist passengers and their families with inquiries related to the incident.


Chief Minister MK Stalin Monitors Rescue Operations


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed shock over the train accident and immediately began overseeing the rescue operations. He took to social media, confirming that Minister @Avadi_Nasar and other government officials were dispatched to the accident site to manage the situation. CM Stalin also ensured that the injured passengers were swiftly transported to hospitals for medical care. His direct involvement demonstrated the government's commitment to a prompt and efficient response.


Government Provides Rescue and Relief to Stranded Passengers


In addition to the immediate medical care provided, the Tamil Nadu government, under Chief Minister MK Stalin's direction, arranged for food and travel facilities for the stranded passengers. A dedicated team was formed to ensure that passengers wishing to return home or continue their journey could do so without further inconvenience. The government's swift actions helped minimize the impact of the accident on the travelers.


Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin Visits Injured Passengers


Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured passengers at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai. His visit provided both moral and practical support to the victims, showing the state government’s deep concern for the passengers' welfare and recovery.


Tiruvallur District Collector's Update on the Accident


Tiruvallur District Collector T. Prabhushankar confirmed that the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express was carrying approximately 1,360 passengers at the time of the collision. He emphasized that no lives were lost in the accident. Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist with evacuating passengers, and the rescue operation was efficiently carried out. Prabhushankar added that four passengers with severe injuries were being treated in hospitals and were stable.


South Western Railway Confirms Derailment of 12 Coaches


The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of South Western Railway confirmed that between 12 and 13 coaches of the Bagmati Express derailed due to the collision. Despite the severity of the derailment, no fatalities were reported, and all injured passengers were promptly evacuated to nearby hospitals. Train movement in the affected section remained suspended as rescue operations continued.


Railway Board’s Quick Response to Rescue and Evacuation


Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity at the Railway Board, confirmed that relief and rescue operations began immediately after the accident. He added that more than 90% of the passengers had been safely evacuated from the train. The railway authorities also ensured that necessary arrangements were made at Chennai Central Station to facilitate the onward travel of the remaining passengers. The prompt response from the Railway Board and local officials helped restore confidence in the railway system's ability to handle emergencies.
