This move aims to ensure that nursing mothers and their children can access basic amenities in a dignified and private manner, reinforcing their fundamental rights under the Indian Constitution. As part of his three-day visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with top CEOs from the global technology sector, emphasizing India’s commitment to innovation, technology, and collaboration in cutting-edge industries. The roundtable discussions took place in New York, where PM Modi assured leaders from some of the world’s most influential tech companies of India’s focus on intellectual property protection and fostering an innovation-driven economy.


Technology and Innovation: The Focus of PM Modi’s Discussions


At the heart of his interactions, PM Modi spoke about the immense potential India offers for collaboration in advanced areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. The roundtable included influential figures such as Shantanu Narayen (CEO of Adobe), Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google), Arvind Krishna (CEO of IBM), Lisa Su (CEO of AMD), and Jensen Huang (CEO of NVIDIA). These discussions were pivotal in exploring how India and the US can deepen ties in technology and innovation.


Key Highlights of the Roundtable


PM Modi used the opportunity to stress India’s strides in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, and IT production, inviting the participating companies to explore opportunities in co-development, co-design, and co-production in India. He pointed to India’s transformation into a global tech hub and highlighted the government’s strategic efforts in areas such as:

- Semiconductor manufacturing and the BIO E3 policy aimed at boosting India’s position as a biotechnology powerhouse.

- AI for all with a focus on promoting the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

- Growth in electronics and IT manufacturing, with an emphasis on India becoming a leader in green technology development.


PM Modi emphasized that the India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) is central to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, and technology cooperation between the two countries could drive mutual growth and global benefits.


CEOs Express Keen Interest in India’s Tech Ecosystem


The CEOs were highly optimistic about India’s role as a global technology hub, driven by favorable policies, a booming market, and an expanding talent pool. Many CEOs showed interest in investing in Indian startups to co-create new technologies and solutions for the future. The roundtable concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening partnerships and expanding collaborations in the field of tech innovation.


Bilateral Meeting with Holtec International


On the same day, PM Modi met with Krishna Singh, CEO of Holtec International, to discuss Holtec’s plans to expand manufacturing in India and explore cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy. This meeting reinforced India’s focus on sustainable energy and green goals.


Quad Leaders’ Summit and Future Multilateral Engagements


The visit also saw PM Modi’s participation in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Delaware, where he met with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The leaders discussed ways to enhance peace, progress, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. India has also agreed to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.


On the final day of his visit, PM Modi is set to address the 'Summit of the Future' at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the theme focuses on 'Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow'. This summit is expected to witness the participation of several global leaders, offering a platform for discussions on key global challenges and solutions.


Strengthening US-India Technology Ties


The key takeaway from PM Modi’s US visit is India’s growing prominence in the global tech ecosystem and its focus on establishing strong partnerships with global tech giants. The India-US tech collaboration holds immense potential to reshape industries like semiconductors, AI, biotechnology, and quantum computing. Both countries are moving towards a resilient and secure semiconductor supply chain, evidenced by the joint progress on GlobalFoundries’ Kolkata Power Center and the launch of IBM's Watsonx platform on India's Airawat supercomputer.


These interactions pave the way for India to emerge as a global leader in technology innovation, ensuring mutual benefits and fostering long-term partnerships in an increasingly digital world.
