Supreme Court Advocates for Childcare and Feeding Rooms in Public Spaces The Supreme Court of India has suggested that the Union Government develop a comprehensive policy addressing the construction of feeding rooms and childcare facilities  in public places. This move aims to ensure that nursing mothers and their children can access basic amenities in a dignified and private manner, reinforcing their fundamental rights under the Indian Constitution. SC Encourages Policy Formulation A bench comprising Justice BV Nagarathna  and Justice N Kotiswar Singh  highlighted the absence of a structured framework to address this pressing issue. The court advised the Centre to propose a policy that could then be implemented across the states, scheduling the next hearing for December 10, 2024.   The apex court emphasized that before issuing formal directions, it was crucial to understand the Centre’s perspective on implementing the petitioner’s demand for childcare and feedi...

Ray of Hope for Trapped Indians in Russia: PM Modi's

Visit Brings Relief

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Russia, the father of an Indian youth trapped in the Russian army, Balwinder Singh, expressed hope for the release of stranded Indians in war-hit Russia. His son, Gagandeep Singh, is one of many Indians caught in the conflict.

Modi-Putin Meeting: Assurance of Early Discharge

During his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Modi took a strong stance on the recruitment of Indian nationals into the Russian army. The Russian government has assured an "early discharge" of these Indians from army service, according to Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

Voices from the Ground: A Father's Hope

In a conversation with ANI, Balwinder Singh shared his relief after learning about Modi's visit. "I have come across several media reports and got to know that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Russia. Even my son told me over the phone that PM Modi reached Russia and held talks with the government regarding the release of the trapped Indians," Singh said.

Dire Conditions: Trapped and Sent to Battlegrounds

Gagandeep Singh informed his father that the trapped Indians are sent to battlegrounds and kept in bunkers, which are defensive military fortifications in war zones. "My son told me over the phone that the trapped Indians are sent to battlegrounds, having been handed over guns and grenades. They are kept in bunkers. However, with Prime Minister Modi's visit to the country, there is now a ray of hope for our trapped countrymen in the Russian army," Singh added.

Human Trafficking Network: A Dark Reality

Several Indians were allegedly duped into fighting in Russia's war with Ukraine under the pretext of lucrative jobs. In April, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) busted a major human trafficking network running across the country. These traffickers lured Indian nationals through social media channels and local contacts, promising highly paid jobs in Russia but sending them to the Russia-Ukraine war zone instead.

Peace and Diplomacy: Modi's Message

During his official visit to Russia and Austria, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Calling peace "most important" for future generations, Modi emphasized that solutions are not possible on battlegrounds. "As a friend, I have always said that for the bright future of our coming generations, peace is of utmost importance. But I also know that solutions are not possible on battlegrounds. Amid bombs, guns, and bullets, solutions and peace talks do not succeed. We will have to follow the path to peace only through talks," PM Modi stated.

India's Stance: Advocating Peace

This visit marks PM Modi's first to Russia since the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv began in 2022. India has consistently advocated for "peace and diplomacy" as the means to resolve the conflict between India and Russia.

Conclusion

PM Modi's visit to Russia has brought a glimmer of hope for Indian nationals trapped in the Russian army. With assurances from the Russian government and a strong stance on peace and diplomacy, there is renewed optimism for the safe return of these individuals.
