Supreme Court Advocates for Childcare and Feeding Rooms in Public Spaces The Supreme Court of India has suggested that the Union Government develop a comprehensive policy addressing the construction of feeding rooms and childcare facilities  in public places. This move aims to ensure that nursing mothers and their children can access basic amenities in a dignified and private manner, reinforcing their fundamental rights under the Indian Constitution. SC Encourages Policy Formulation A bench comprising Justice BV Nagarathna  and Justice N Kotiswar Singh  highlighted the absence of a structured framework to address this pressing issue. Allegations of Derogatory Remarks by CISF Personnel Against SpiceJet Employee

Allegations of Derogatory Remarks by CISF Personnel

Against SpiceJet Employee

In a recent incident at Jaipur Airport, a SpiceJet employee accused a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of making derogatory remarks. The incident has raised concerns about workplace harassment and the swift escalation of conflicts.

Incident Details

The incident occurred on July 11, when the SpiceJet employee, while performing her duties, alleged that ASI Giriraj Prasad made indecent comments towards her. She claimed that upon threatening to file a police complaint, Prasad retaliated by threatening her job security. The alleged remarks included inappropriate comments such as "humey bhi apna seva-paani ka mauka do" and "ek raat rukne ka kya logi."

Counter-Complaint and Arrest

Before the SpiceJet employee could file her complaint, ASI Prasad lodged a complaint against her. Following this, she was arrested after allegedly slapping the ASI during a mandatory screening procedure at the airport. The senior CISF official stated that the absence of female CISF personnel at the screening led to the confrontation.

SpiceJet's Response

SpiceJet issued an official statement supporting their employee and presenting a different narrative. They asserted that their employee, who had a valid airport entry pass, was subjected to inappropriate behavior by the CISF personnel. The airline condemned the incident as a serious case of sexual harassment and announced their intention to take immediate legal action.

Broader Concerns

This incident underscores broader issues in India regarding the treatment of employees, especially women, in workplace environments. Despite laws designed to protect individuals from harassment, incidents like these highlight gaps in their enforcement and the need for better mechanisms to handle such conflicts without resorting to physical altercations or hasty legal actions.

Call for Improved Enforcement and Awareness

There is an urgent need for improved enforcement of workplace harassment laws and increased awareness among both employees and law enforcement personnel about proper conduct and grievance redressal mechanisms. Ensuring that incidents are handled appropriately can prevent escalations and reinforce trust in legal protections.

Conclusion

The Jaipur Airport incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced in ensuring safe and respectful workplaces. It calls for stringent enforcement of existing laws, better training for security personnel, and robust support systems for victims of harassment.
