Mumbai Customs Seizes Gold and Diamonds Worth Crores, Four Arrested


Mumbai Customs has made significant seizures of gold and diamonds over three days, resulting in the apprehension of four individuals. The operations, conducted from April 19 to April 21, 2024, saw the confiscation of 6.815 kg of gold and diamonds valued at over Rs 6.46 crores across 13 separate cases.


Innovative Smuggling Methods Unveiled


Smugglers employed ingenious methods to conceal the contraband, with diamonds discovered cleverly hidden within noodle packets. These discoveries underscore the challenges faced by authorities in combating sophisticated smuggling operations.


Massive Gold Haul at Mumbai Airport


On April 20, Mumbai Customs at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport intercepted a staggering 9.482 kg of gold valued at Rs 5.71 crore in 14 separate cases. The magnitude of the seizure highlights the scale of smuggling activities in the region.


Revealing Social Media Post


A recent post on social media platform X by Mumbai Customs detailed the gold seizures carried out between April 15 and April 18. The contraband was found concealed in various locations, including within clothing, body cavities, and luggage.


Innovative Concealment Methods Uncovered


Seized items included crude gold chains, kadas, rings, and round pieces concealed within clothing and luggage. Gold plates were hidden within mobile phones and clothing, while gold dust was concealed in wax within the rectum. Melted gold bars were also discovered hidden in undergarments.


Continued Vigilance


Earlier in April, from April 11 to April 14, the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, seized over 10.02 kg of gold valued at Rs 6.03 crore across 12 cases. These operations, coupled with the recent seizures, reflect the unwavering commitment of Mumbai Customs to combat smuggling activities and maintain border security.

The seizures underscore the importance of law enforcement efforts in safeguarding national security and economic interests. Such operations not only disrupt illegal trade but also serve as a deterrent to future smuggling attempts.
