Bar Council of India Removes 107 Fake Advocates from  Delhi Roll to Uphold Legal Integrity The Bar Council of India (BCI) has taken decisive action in a sweeping initiative aimed at maintaining the integrity of the legal profession by removing 107 fake advocates  from the Roll of Advocates in Delhi  between 2019 and October 2024. This step comes as part of the BCI's rigorous verification process to ensure that only qualified, genuinely practising advocates remain in the profession, ultimately upholding public trust in the legal system. Strengthened Verification Framework Under Rule 32 This effort falls under Rule 32 of the Bar Council of India Certificate and Place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015 . The BCI  amended Rule 32 on June 23, 2023 , which empowered the BCI to verify, identify, and systematically remove unqualified and fake advocates from the Roll. US and Japan Strengthen Security Pact from Over 60 Years Ago




Amidst growing security concerns posed by China and North Korea, the United States and Japan are planning to enhance their security pact, originally inked over six decades ago. According to diplomatic sources cited by Kyodo news agency, the US military aims to reinforce the functions of its command headquarters in Japan to facilitate smoother cooperation with Japan's self-defence forces.


Bolstering Response Capabilities


Japan and the United States are also collaborating on further measures to strengthen their response capabilities. Japan had previously decided to acquire the capability to strike enemy bases, a significant move under its war-renouncing Constitution. Additionally, Japan plans to establish a joint headquarters to command its ground, maritime, and air forces by March 2025, aiming to deepen cooperation with the US military.


Addressing Security Threats


The decision to strengthen the security pact comes in response to perceived security threats from North Korea and China. Recent missile tests by North Korea and increased military activities by China in the South China Sea and near Taiwan have raised concerns in both countries.

Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is set to visit the United States next month for talks with President Joe Biden. The leaders are expected to review their command and control operations, with discussions on enhancing security cooperation. The US and Japan have been allies since World War II and signed a defence treaty in 1960. This treaty allows the US to establish bases in Japan in exchange for a commitment to defend Japan in case of an attack. Legal Proceedings Initiated Against Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Cognizance Taken by PMLA Court A Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Ranchi has taken cognizance of a prosecution complaint filed by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) against Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
