Bar Council of India Removes 107 Fake Advocates from  Delhi Roll to Uphold Legal Integrity The Bar Council of India (BCI) has taken decisive action in a sweeping initiative aimed at maintaining the integrity of the legal profession by removing 107 fake advocates  from the Roll of Advocates in Delhi  between 2019 and October 2024. This step comes as part of the BCI's rigorous verification process to ensure that only qualified, genuinely practising advocates remain in the profession, ultimately upholding public trust in the legal system. Strengthened Verification Framework Under Rule 32 This effort falls under Rule 32 of the Bar Council of India Certificate and Place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015 . The BCI  amended Rule 32 on June 23, 2023 , which empowered the BCI to verify, identify, and systematically remove unqualified and fake advocates from the Roll. Resolving Diplomatic Tensions: EAM Jaishankar's Perspective

Humanitarian Assistance in the Maldives

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed confidence in resolving the ongoing diplomatic tension with the Maldives through diplomatic channels. Speaking at the 'The Rise of the Global South' event at TV9 Bharatvarsh Conclave, Jaishankar emphasized the humanitarian efforts of Indian military personnel and aviation platforms in the Maldives, aimed at benefiting local communities.

Emphasizing Diplomacy

Addressing the complexities of international relations, Jaishankar highlighted the significance of diplomacy in addressing misunderstandings between nations. He stressed that while politics may influence global affairs, diplomacy remains the primary avenue for resolving disputes.

Roles of Indian Forces in the Maldives

Jaishankar shed light on the essential roles played by Indian military personnel and aviation platforms in the Maldives, primarily focusing on their use for medical evacuation (medvac) purposes. He emphasized that these efforts directly benefit the people of the Maldives, underscoring the importance of military personnel in operating such platforms.

Optimism for Resolution

Acknowledging the ongoing discussions between India and the Maldives, Jaishankar expressed optimism in reaching a mutually beneficial solution. Despite the complexities involved, he reiterated his confidence in resolving the matter through diplomatic dialogue.

Challenges and Progress

The diplomatic tension between India and the Maldives has garnered attention, particularly due to the close ties between Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu and China. However, both nations have engaged in multiple high-level discussions to address their differences.

Path Forward

Following recent meetings, the Maldives Foreign Ministry announced plans for the replacement of Indian military personnel in one of the aviation platforms by March 10, with a complete replacement scheduled by May 10. Meanwhile, both India and the Maldives have agreed on "mutually workable solutions" to ensure the continued operation of Indian aviation platforms providing humanitarian and medvac services.

Remaining Challenges

However, challenges persist, with reports of President Muizzu's request for the withdrawal of Indian troops by March 15. Additionally, tensions escalated following disparaging remarks by Maldivian officials regarding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives in the Lakshadweep archipelago.

Hope for a Peaceful Resolution

As diplomatic efforts continue, stakeholders remain hopeful for a peaceful resolution to the diplomatic rift between India and the Maldives.
